Drenai Saga

I have a real soft spot for David Gemmell’s Drenai Saga. I first discovered these books years ago, and there’s something wonderfully nostalgic about returning to a world that feels so familiar, even when I know exactly what sort of trouble its characters are likely to find themselves in. The battered heroes, impossible odds, friendships, sacrifice and glorious last stands are all part of the appeal. Gemmell understood that the best fantasy isn’t just about swords and battles, it’s about the people holding the swords and the reasons they keep fighting. Coming back to the Drenai Saga feels a bit like catching up with an old friend.
