Urban fantasy is where the magical and supernatural collide with the world we already know. Forget distant kingdoms and medieval castles, here the monsters, witches, vampires and assorted magical weirdness are hiding in plain sight, usually somewhere just around the corner. There is something particularly fun about taking an ordinary city and discovering that there is a whole secret world operating beneath the surface. Add a wisecracking hero, a few dangerous creatures, some questionable life choices and plenty of trouble, and you have the makings of a great urban fantasy. It is familiar, strange, occasionally dark and often a lot of fun.
