LitRPG fiction takes the idea of a role-playing game and turns it into a story, complete with character stats, experience points, levels, quests and all the other numbers gamers know and love. Whether the characters are trapped inside a virtual world or living in a reality where game mechanics suddenly become part of everyday life, there’s usually plenty of action, progression and increasingly ridiculous challenges to overcome. Watching a character start out as a complete nobody and gradually become an absolute powerhouse is a big part of the appeal. Add monsters, loot, clever strategies and the occasional cheeky bit of humour, and you’ve got a seriously addictive read.
I’m a big fan of Audible and, as you’ll probably have noticed from the number of audiobook reviews on this site, I use it regularly myself. I love having such a huge library of audiobooks available whenever I fancy starting something new, and it has become a pretty essential part of my reading routine. If you’re an audiobook fan too, or you’ve never given audiobooks a try, I’d definitely recommend taking a look. If you decide to sign up or make a purchase through my link, I may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you.
